Letterkenny IT has this morning unveiled of a land purchase deal at a cost in excess of 8 million euro.
The IT has secured a10 acre sight directly opposite the institute on the Port Road and second 66 acre piece of land lies adjacent to the Knocknamona Roundabout.
One of the main causes of concern for residents in the IT’s locality has been the issue of parking for its 3,000 students – LYIT President Paul Hannigan, says today’s announcement will allow that issue to be addressed:
The 66 acre sight at Knocknamona Roundabout was owned by the HSE while the sight on the Port Road will be purchased from former Fianna Fail Councillor Terry McEniff and former town council clerk Peter Coyle.
Tanaiste and Education Minister Mary Coughlan, whose department approved the funding, says everything about the deal is above board:
