Letterkenny Town Council is to source its own salt supplies to deal with any future cold snaps.
Almost half the motions before the council at its monthly meeting focused on the after effects of the severe weather in November and December.
Members praised council staff and officials, saying they had performed above and beyond the call of duty. Tributes were also paid to the army, Tidy Towns committee, Chamber of Commerce and Highland Radio.
On the issue of the NRA and national policy, members were less complimentary, with many
shortcomings identified, particularly in terms of how salt was sourced and distributed.
Mayor Tadhg Culbert says the council is big enough to take its own decisions, and when officials pointed out the salt mine in Carrickfergus would only deal with the NRA, he said hard cash can be very persuasive:
