All-Ireland winning skipper Anthony Molloy has been injured in a road accident today in which another man is battling for his life.
Three people were rushed to hospital following the head-on collision on the N15 between Ballintra and Laghey, near Donegal town, at 10 o’clock this morning.
48-year-old Anthony Molloy, captain when Donegal won it’s All-Ireland in 1992, was a passenger in a Kia car being driven by another man in the Sligo direction.
They were in collision with a Bulmers van being driven towards Donegal town.
The van driver is from Ballisodare, Co. Sligo, and is fighting for his life in Sligo General Hospital.
A Hospital spokesperson said he was “critical”. The men in the Kia, including Mr Molloy, were said to be stable.
The N15 between Laghey and Ballintra was closed for several hours while gardai examined the crash scene. Traffic was diverted along another road linking the two villages.
The critically-injured man is a 38-year-old father of two girls and a boy.
