Callaghan says questions remain after cancer misdiagnosis

A Foyle MLA says it’s vital that questions about capacity at the Radiology Department at Altnagelvin Hospital are addressed in the wake of confirmation that four patients with cancer were initially misdiagnosed when x-rays were not properly checked.
One of them, an 80-year-old man with lung cancer, subsequently died.
It emerged last week that it took 10 months to clear a backlog of around 18,500 x-rays at Altnagelvin hospital last year, with representitives of the Western Health Trust and the Department of Health due to appear before the Assembley Health Committee shortly.
Foyle MLA Pól Callaghan says one problem here is that the trust is very slow to release information, citing patient confidentiality. He says there must be more communication………
