Reminder should be issued to second home owners that payment is overdue

A county Councillor says that a national and local media campaign to remind people of their second home
tax liability does not go far enough.
Since its introduction over 6 million euro has been collected by Donegal County Council through the second home tax –
it is expected that 3.2 million euro will be collected in 2011.
A significant portion of money collected to date has been through late payment penalties and charges.
Councillor David Alcorn says that in many cases that was through no fault of the person liable as they may not of known the payment deadline had passed.
He has called on the council to be fairer and to issue reminders advising second home owners that payment is due or over due – he believes the public wants to know where the money collected is being spent:
