Soccer – Derry City’s League Title Dreams Fade

Derry City’s league title hopes faded on Thursday Night after a 1 nil defeat at the hands of Shamrock Rovers. Heading into the game Derry who were unbeaten in 19 games knew that if they won their remaining four matches they would be champions. However at the Tallaght Stadium it was Rovers who put themselves in pole position for another Premier Division crown. In the first half of Thursday’s encounter Derry should have been in front. Eamon Zayed’s header hit the post and Daniel Lafferty went close on two occasions. The games only goal was scored by Rohan Ricketts five minutes into the second half after a mix up in the Derry defence between keeper Ger Doherty and Stewart Greacen. The Dublin club now need just one more win to wrap up the title. Derry’s next game is at home on Sunday against Galway Utd.
Derry Manager Stephen Kenny was gutted with last nights result.
