Just a few months after its launch ‘Care to Drive’ volunteers drivers in Donegal have already provided 38 hospital lifts to ten cancer patients.
The drivers are volunteers with the Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive scheme and pick patients up at their own homes and drop them off for their appointments.
They collect them again later, saving many the difficulty of a long bus journey home after sometimes aggressive treatments.
Care to Drive manager, Olwyn Ryan says the scheme is a success but more volunteers are needed:
