John Lonergan says it was a mistake to place McDermott in open prison

A Former Governor of Mountjoy Prison has said it was the wrong decision to put Martin McDermott in an open prison.
26-year-old McDermott, from Raphoe, escaped from the low security Loughan House prison in Blacklion last month.
He was serving a sentence at Loughan House for the manslaughter of Garda Gary McLoughlin in Burt in 2009.
Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that three more prisoners escaped from Loughan House. The three men climbed over a fence and left the prison leading to yet another cross-Border police operation.
All were recaptured within three hours and transferred to more secure prisons.
