Representatives of Google and Trip Advisor attend Failte Ireland Northwest event

Representatives of Google and the tourist review site Trip Advisor were among the speakers at a Failte Ireland North West event this week highlighting the importance of a strong online presence.
The e-business conference looked at the extent to which travellers now use the Internet both for information and for booking.
The conference was told that the internet is the most important factor for almost half of overseas travellers who decide to visit Ireland, with seven out of ten relying on the web to plan their visit here.
Providers were told latest predictions suggest up to 25% of people may soon be booking their accommodation through their mobile phone, and that underlines the importance of keeping up to date with online technology.
Speakers included experts from Google and Trip Advisor.
Martina Bromley, Head of Operations for Fáilte Ireland in the North West, said the fact over 100 delegates from the North West tourism industry attended the shows that the importance of a strong online presence is vital.
The importance of Trip Advisor was emphasised, with delegates told 50% of travellers base their choice for a trip on other people’s experiences and reviews.
