O’Domhnaill repays overclaim on travel expenses

It’s emerged that Donegal Senator Brian O’Domhnaill has repaid some travel expenses after it emerged that he lived closer to Leinster House than he initially claimed.
Last May, he submitted a claim based on his Falcarragh home being 370 km from Leinster House, placing it in “Band 12”, which entitled him to almost 33,000 euro a year. However, in July, two other forms were submitted, one placing him in Band 11 and the other in Band 9.
He subsequently confirmed the Band 9 designation was correct, and his home was 290km from Leinster House, cutting his annual entitlement by over 2,000 euro.
It’s understood the reductions are based on the route taken to Dublin after new rules were introduced in Leinster House banning so called “Scenic Route” mileage.
