Martin Mc Dermott back in garda custody following border handover

26 year old Raphoe man Martin McDermott has been handed over to An Garda Siochana by PSNI Officers this morning.
It completes his extradition back to the Republic to serve the remainder of his sentence for manslaughter and associated offences.
In July of last year, Martin McDermott was convicted at Letterkenny Circuit Criminal Court of six offences, including the manslaughter of Garda Gary McLoughlin, for which he received a custodial sentence of 8 years.
On March 15th, McDermott absconded from Loughan House Prison, and was arrested in Derry the following day for unrelated offences commited in the city. He was sentenced to four months there.
A European Arrest Warrant was received from the Republic of Ireland seeking his return to serve the remainder of his sentence, and McDermott consented to return on Tuesday of this week. He was handed over to gardai on the border this morning.
