21-year-old appears in Derry Court charged with Magerafelt robbery and assault

A 21-year-old man has appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on 16-year-old Philip Convery at Mayogall Road, Knockcloghrim on June 5.
The accused, Michael Mongan of 97, White Rise in Dunmurray faced a total of seven charges.
Mongan was accused of attempted robbery of £10,000 on June 5, GBH with intent on Philip Convery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm on the boy’s uncle and grandmother, possessing a firearm or imitation firearm, possessing an iron bar and driving while disqualified.
Mongan only spoke to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges.
A police officer connected Mongan to the charges and in response to defence solicitor Mr. Adrian Harvey he confirmed that the boy had been able to make a statement to police and to take part in an identification procedure.
The officer also said the boy had sustained a fractured skull.
There was no application for bail Mongan was remanded in custody to appear again by videolink on June 28.
