Rallying – Donegal International Rally Preview Pt4

Friday is Day 1 of the 2012 Donegal International Rally. Over 140 crews will set out from An Grianan Theatre on the Port Road in Letterkenny in the hope of tackling 22 stages and making it back to the finish on Sunday.
Friday’s action sees six stages based around the Manorcunningham, Newtowncunningham and Burt area’s, with two further spectator specials to wrap up day 1 in Buncrana Town. Saturday has eight more tests in the Kilmacrennan, Gartan and Termon areas with the classics of Knockalla and Fanad run twice in the afternoon. The now traditional final day will see the crews head for home through Glen village, Port Lake in Cresslough and the titanic Atlantic drive in Downings.
Last year’s outright winner Tim Mc Nulty will not be running this weekend. Tim has sold his winning Subaru onto Derek Mc Garrity. Derek hasn’t won in Donegal before but he has a car that’s one of the best in the country at the moment.
Top Donegal seeds are Donagh Kelly and Kevin Flanagan in car no 7. The pair have moved up from group n to a Subaru wrc for the event.  Despite not having many miles in the car Donagh is hoping to put in a good performance over the three days…

Eugene Donnelly is a former Irish Tarmac Champion and three time winner of the Donegal International Rally.  Eugene has been giving his thoughts on what it takes to win in Donegal…

Tune into Highland Radio throughout the weekend for all the action stage by stage with Oisin Kelly and Seamus Mc Gettigan.
