Three hospitalised and 49 discharged after bus crash

Three people were treated at Letterkenny General Hospital overnight following an bus crash at Castleogary near Killybegs at 4.30 last evening. The bus was in collision with a car, and a total of 52 people were brought to the hospital. Two of them were in the car, the rest were in the bus, including 49 elderly passengers. The hospital implemented its Major Incident Plan as a result of the numbers.
In a statement, the HSE has confirmed 49 patients were assessed, treated and discharged with follow-up Outpatients appointments. A further three patients with more serious injuries have been admitted to hospital.
Sean Murphy, General Manager, Letterkenny General Hospital, said; “The overall hospital response worked extremely well, and I would like to thank staff for the prompt response, especially those who came in off duty. All patients have now been treated and cleared from the ED, and the hospital has resumed normal services.”
