An Independent Councillor in Donegal is predicting a fudge if a special meeting is called in September to discuss a 13% reduction in Donegal County Council’s local government funding.
If there isn’t a major upsurge in Household Charge payments, then the council may have to agree spending cuts to reflect the loss of just over €4 million, with Sinn Fein saying the council should refuse to do so.
Cllr John Campbell supports that view, but says he fears when faced with the possibility of the council being taken over by an administrator, Fiann Fail will buckle and agree a compromise:
