A Donegal TD says Education Minister Ruairí Quinn is refusing to recognise the impact of cuts to guidance counselors in schools across the country.
Schools no longer get a special allocation, and must fund guidance services from their standard teaching allocation.
When the TUI president was in Donegal this week, he identified this as one of the key concerns for the union.
Donegal North East Deputy Charlie Mc Conalogue, the Fianna Fail Education Sportsperson says Minster Quinn should be carrying out an audit to ensure that funding cuts do not impact on the guidance and counselling services available in schools.
He pointed to an incident in Wexford where a student was hospitalised after failing to see a counselor, and the school subsequently got more money.
