Woman stages sit-in protest over pay at Atlantic View in Ballyshannon

A woman has staged a sit-in during a pay protest at a community development organisation which was once given a boost by Environment Minister Phil Hogan.
Ann McGowan, who once highlighted a cancer campaign on the Joe Duffy radio show, said she was prepared to remain locked in overnight at the Atlantic View Community Development Company in Ballyshannon.
63-year-old Ms McGowan, the only paid employee of the company, was made redundant over two weeks ago when it closed its offices.
She was offered her redundancy pay cheque yesterday, but she immediately rejected it claiming that it was only a third of what she was entitled to after 11 years in the organisation where she was project organiser.
Atlantic View operated cross-border education and jobs schemes and was funded by a number of organisations, including the International Fund for Ireland.
Michael Tunney, chairman of Atlantic View, said that it was run by a totally voluntary management board.
He said they were trying to call an extraordinary board meeting in the next 48 hours to prepare a formal statement in response to Ms McGowan’s situation.
