Former Letterkenny General doctor fails to turn up for fitness to practise inquiry

A hospital doctor, who used to work at Letterkenny General Hospital, has failed to attend a Medical Council fitness to practise inquiry into an allegation against him.
In his absence, the inquiry found that Mirghany El-Mana failed to comply with a High Court order attaching conditions to his continued registration as a doctor
This following a previous Medical Council inquiry in 2010, which found him guilty on four counts of professional misconduct.
After the 2010 inquiry, which followed a complaint by a Health Service Executive manager,  Dr El-Mana was required to undertake a course in professionalism and forward a copy of the results within six months.
Today’s inquiry has heard that Dr El-Mana supplied a certificate of completion of a course in March 2012 after the deadline.
The fitness to practise committee will make a recommendation on sanction to a full meeting of the Medical Council at a later date.
Dr El-Mana is a specialist registrar and has worked in a number of hospitals including Letterkenny General, Louth County, Beaumont Hospital and most recently at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore.
