Calls for Glencolmcille Garda Station to remain open

A former Chairperson of Udaras na Gaeltachta says the garda station at Glencolmcille should be left open for at least six months of the year.
The station is one of five in the county due to close on the 31st of this month, but Liam O’Cuinnegain, the head of Oideas Gael says there is a widespread belief in the area that whatever about the winter, the station should open from easter to September.
He says the tourist season brings thousands into the area, and with a whole new emphasis on marketting Sliabh League, those numbers will grow.
Liam O’Cuinnegain says the area is already very popular with walkers and hikers, and that has led to emergencies in the past……….
