Five Donegal garda stations close for the final time today

The Social Protection Minister says modern policing methods are being used to tackle the issue of robberies in rural Ireland.
Joan Burton was quizzed in the Dáil this morning as 95 garda stations across the country close their doors for the final time today. Five of them are in Donegal – Annagry, Brockagh, Churchill, Glencolmcille and Malin, all of which have been wound down in recent weeks.
Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin says it’s terrorised people and has them living in constant fear in their homes. A Fianna Fail motion to stop the closures was defeated in the Dail last night.
That’s a point echoed by former Mountjoy Governer John Lonergan………..

However, Minister Joan Burton says more effective policing can be delivered without these garda stations. She told the Dail it’s a matter of how bes to use available resources……………
