Derry’s Darron Gibson has turned down a chance to return to the Republic of Ireland squad for this week’s friendly against Poland.
The Everton midfielder spoke to Giovanni Trapattoni this morning and was asked if he would be willing to rejoin the Ireland set-up after Hull’s David Meyler was ruled-out with a knee injury.
Gibson has informed Trap that he feels he wouldn’t be ready to play at international level, after only just returning to action after a lengthy lay-off with a thigh injury.
It’s unclear however, if the Derry native would now be willing to return to the Ireland set-up for next month’s qualifier against Sweden.
Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli is optimistic that the former Manchester United player will be available for some qualifying action…
