The government is being urged to clarify its intentions about the proposed sale of Coillte’s timber harvesting rights.
The Impact trade union, which represents workers with the state forestry service says while certain Oireachtas members, including Donegal Senator Jimmy Harte have indicated that the plan is unlikely to go ahead, it’s now time for a clear statement of intent.
The union claims that the proposed sale would cost the taxpayer money and threaten rural jobs, tourism and public sector access to Coillte forests in Donegal and across the country.
