An 18 yearold man and a 24 year old woman have appeared at a special sitting of Derry Magistrate’s Court charged with attempting to hijack two cars on Saturday.
There was no bail application granted, and both defendants were remanded in custody for a video link hearing on 12 September.
24 year old Hannah Kerrigan and 18 year old Liam McCavana, both of no fixed abode, were charged with attempting to hijack a BMW and a Vauxhall Vectra. The cars were parked in the Trench Road and Hollymount areas of the city.
Both were also charged with assaulting police.
The PSNI helicopter was deployed during the operation on Saturday.
Mr McCavana, of no fixed abode in Belfast, was also charged with assaulting two police officers, while Ms Kerrigan, of no fixed abode in Derry, was also charged with possessing two knives and with assaulting a police officer.
Two others were arrested in the same operation, an 18-year-old woman was released on police bail pending further enquiries, while a 23-year-old man is expected to appear in court next month.
