Seamus Heaney laid to rest in Derry

Seamus Heaney is being laid to rest this evening in his native Co Derry.
Hundreds of people attended the poet and playwright’s requiem mass in Dublin today.
The 74 year old writer – died last Friday morning – after a short illness.
The Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook was full to capacity for Seamus Heaney’s requiem mass this morning.
The chief mourners – his wife Marie – and three children Christopher, Michael and Catherine Ann – were joined by amongst others President Michael D Higgins –  Taoiseach Enda Kenny and U2’s Bono.
Brahms Lullaby was played as Seamus Heaney’s coffin was carried from the church to applause from mourners.
He is being buried this evening in Bellaghy in Derry – where he spent his childhood.
