Muff villagers come out in protest for a safe crossing

Inishowen Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has commended the local community in Muff after a protest was staged in the village to demand a safe crossing in the village.
The protest, which was organised by the local Sinn Féin cumann in conjunction with local residents, was staged on Saturday afternoon to highlight the danger of the current road crossing.
Commenting after the protest Cllr Murray said;
“I want to commend all those people who came to the protest today and stood in the pouring rain to demand a safe crossing for the village.
“This protest highlighted the strong community spirit in Muff and sent a clear message that local people want a safe road crossing with proper signage.“Since the installation of the current road crossing I have been inundated with calls from local residents who are deeply concerned that an accident will occur.
“The crossing, while visible to pedestrians, is not clear to motorists. Therefore it could falsely give a pedestrian the indication that it is safe to cross when reality it isn’t.
“We cannot wait for someone to be knocked down before taking action on this issue.
“I have spoken to other councillors as well as senior roads engineers and I have asked that the crossing is discussed at the next electoral area meeting in Inishowen.
“I am hopeful that we have now created enough momentum to finally deliver a safe pedestrian crossing for the village.”
