Update – High Court upholds bail conditions for detained Dutch supertrawler

The High Court has upheld a District Court judge’s decision to release the Dutch-owned supertrawler Annelies Ilena on €250,000 bail.
The vessel, formerly the Killybegs based Atlantic Dawn, is now free to leave Killybegs Port, after being detained on Friday. Its captain has been accussed of breachiong EU Fishing Regulations.
Yesterday, Judge Kevin Kilrane set bail for the vessel at €250,000 in Donegal District Court yesterday, but State solicitor Ciaran Liddy told him he had no discretion to lower the bond below the value of the catch and gear which was fixed at over €5.8 million.
This was disputed bt defence solicitor Diarmuid Barry, and bail was set at €250,000.
Today, the State has went to the High Court which upheld the District Court judge’s order at a special sitting this morning.
The Master of the Annelies Ilena, formerly the Atlantic Dawn, has been charged with breaches of EU fishing regulations and is due for trial at Donegal
Circuit Court on December 10.
The Annelies Ilena was escorted from a point off Tory Island to Killybegs at the weekend by Irish Navy vessel the LE Roisin.
