Injuries Board paid out almost €4.2 million for Donegal motor collision claims last year

Figures published by the Injuries Board this morning show over €157 million was paid out in compensation as a result of motor accidents during 2012 – representing an increase of 2-point-2 per-cent on the amount awarded during 2011.
There were 215 cases in Donegal, with almost €4.2 million paid out in total in the county. The average award was just over €19,000. That’s just below the national average of €20,600.
The findings show road users over the age of 55 are the safest on Irish roads while those aged between 25-34 account for over a quarter of awards.
Donegal recorded 11 claims resulting from fatal collisions, the highest number in the state.
