Donegal County Council saved from dissolution as Independent Councillor backs revised Budget

Cllr-John-CampbellDonegal County Council has been saved after Independent Cllr John Campbell dramatically backed a revised council Budget for 2014.
Just after 8.30pm on Monday, new budget proposals from Fine Gael members, Labour and Independents including John Campbell was put to the floor.
The vote was tied 14 – 14, as Fianna Fail Cllr Rena Donaghey had left the meeting due to a teaching commitment – the deciding vote fell to Mayor Ian McGarvey, who backed the budget.
The budget meeting lasted over 4 days.
Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein expressed disappointment that the budget proposals where rushed through and that they didn’t get a chance to discuss them.
Speaking to Highland Radio News tonight, Cllr John Campbell explained why supported the budget in the end, he says his proposals where simply adopted:


Meanwhile Fianna Fail party whip Ciaran Brogan has said that he is extremely disappointed that the budget was adopted, and he says it is a bad deal for the people of Donegal.
And he says the fact that Fianna Fail Cllr Rena Donaghey left the meeting before the vote happened was not pre-planned…..
