Donegal County Council to oppose Ireland’s biggest windfarm proposals

windfarmDonegal County Council planners are to ask An Board Plenala to reject proposals to build Irelands largest windfarm in the county.

Plans have been lodged by Planree Ltd for up to 49 wind turbines stretching from Barnesmore Gap to Castlefin.

Planree Ltd have applied to An Board Pleanala to develop Ireland’s biggest onshore windfarm at Carrickduff Hill and Lismullyduff.

The proposed windfarm could see up to 49 wind turbines built over 20 townlands from Barnesmore Gap right up to the Castlefin area

A copy of the planners report is being presented at a special ‘information’ meeting in Lifford today.

According to planners, the wind farm proposal, as it stands, “should be refused.”

And if An Bord Pleanala do grant planning permission the planning authority would recommend that at least 30 of the windmills be objected.

Meanwhile, almost 200 submissions and objections from members of the public on both sides of the border were received by An Board Planela on Friday.

People in the North have until April 24th to make submissions and objections to the proposal.
