English hits World Championship qualifying mark

European Indoor 800m silver medalist Mark English achieved the qualifying standard for the IAAF World Championships in his first race of the outdoor season on Sunday.
The Letterkenny man was competing in the FBK Games in Hengelo where he ran a time of 1.45.83 to dip inside the required standard of 1.46.00.
The race in Holland was a close contest with rival and current European Indoor Champion Marcin Lewandowski of Poland taking the victory in a time of 1.45.46.
The World Track and Field Championships take place in Beijing from the 22nd-30th of August.
Two other Donegal athletes broke qualifying standards over the weekend.
In Belgium, Tir Conaill’s Karl Griffen ran a new pb of 1.47.39 in the 800m to qualifying for the European U23 Championships in the summer and 15 year old Aaron Mc Glynn of Finn Valley ran 1.54.87 in Belfast on Saturday to qualifying for the European Youth Olympics in Georgia.
Aaron has made the standard in both the 800m and 400m for the event.
