Harps travel to Wexford for top of the table battle

The third quarter of the season comes to an end this weekend, and the top two in the First Division go head to head at Ferrycarrig Park with top spot the reward for the winner on Friday night.
Only a point separates top of the table Harps and second placed Wexford Youths – although Friday’s hosts do have a game in hand against fourth in the table UCD.
As usual, Harps boss Ollie Horgan is expecting another difficult game against a side who he tipped to be the ones to watch in the First Division prior to the start of the season.
“Wexford home or away is always a difficult game,” said Horgan. “They turned us over in Ballybofey already and have added further quality to their already strong team in Willie Tyrell, Paul Cahalane, Chris Kenny and Shane Dunne.
Asked if he would be happy with the offer of a point now, Horgan answered in the positive.
“Of course we would be delighted to take a point from the game, but that is easier said than done,” he said.
Josh Mailey, because of his red card last weekend, sits the game out through suspension as will Damien McNulty. Packie Mailey injury hit season continues and he again misses out.
This will be the eighth meeting of the two sides in the last sixteen months. In the previous seven meetings, only once has the home side emerged victorious – Wexford winning 3-0 in the penultimate game of last season. The other six games have seen three away wins (two for Harps) and three draws.
The two meetings this season between the sides have both produced away wins. Thomas McMonagle’s goal was the difference between the sides in the first meeting at Ferrycarrig Park while Wexford ran out 3-1 winners at Finn Park in June.
