A woman charged with stabbing her partner in the arm claimed she meant to stab him in the chest but he woke up.
20 year-old Samantha Barton of 20, Bond Street in Derry appeared at the local Magistrate’s Court charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on the man and possessing an offensive weapon on November 29th.
The woman was said to have made statements before caution including saying; “I stabbed him. I meant to stab him in the chest but he woke up. I don’t know why.”
When cautioned Barton said: “There was only me and him so it had to be me.”
The alleged injured party refused to make a formal statement of complaint and told police if |Barton was released he wanted to continued the relationship.
Police objected to bail on the grounds they feared Barton could commit further offences.
A defence solicitor told the court that Barton had medical issues and lived on her own.
She was released on her own bail of £500 with one surety of £500, ordered to reside with her mother, attend her doctor forthwith, observe a curfew, wear a tag and have only supervised contact with the alleged injured party.
She was also ordered not to enter the city side of the Foyle except for court appearances and legal visits.
She will appear again on December 17th.
