NW Warriors collapse hands Lightning comprehensive win

Cricket
Another batting collapse saw the NW Warriors slide to a comprehensive innings loss to Leinster Lightning on the final day of their Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial Championship clash at Bready.
Half centuries from David Rankin and Rosheen Silva had given the Warriors hope of salvaging a last day draw as they extended their overnight parternship to 109 for the second wicket.
However, the dismissal of Rankin – trapped lbw by Tyrone Kane sparked an all too familiar tale of woe for the Warriors.
Merrion seamer Kane (2-25) yorked Silva shortly after the Sri Lanka had reached his fifty – that started a spell where the Warriors lost seven wickets for 48 runs.
Many of the batsmen were guilty of playing at wide deliveries – Pembroke keeper Lorcan Tucker claiming five catches in the innings – a joint-record for the competition.
Malahide speedster Peter Chase impressed with a four wickets haul – taking seven in the game, while Simi Singh (2-21) and Max Sorensen (1-48) were the other successful bowlers.
Ricky-Lee Dougherty (29*) and Jared Barnes (14) struck some lusty blows in a last wicket stand of 42, but it was merely damage limitation by that stage.
The margin of defeat will certainly give the Warriors coaching staff much food for thought before their next match against the same opponents – a 50 over contest at The Hills on June 12.
LEINSTER LIGHTNING 414 all out (118.2 overs, J Anderson 87, T Kane 67, M Sorensen 56, S Singh 47, G Dockrell 35, E Richardson 31, L Tucker 27, A McBrine 3-74, S Thompson 3-84, A Gillespie 2-75)
