Gardai are delaying the conclusion of Arkinson inquest – Doherty

Arlene Arkinson
It’s been claimed that gardai are delaying the inquest into the murder of teenager Arlene Arkinson by failing to produce documents or nominate witnesses.
At Belfast Coroner’s Court yesterday, Judge Brian Sherrard said delays are stalling the conclusion of the long-running inquest. He indicated the court has been in correspondence with An Garda Siochana for quite some time.
15 year old Arlene from Castlederg vanished in August 1994 after attending a disco in Bundoran. Her body has never been found.
The inquest into her death has been ongoing at Belfast Coroners Court since February, and has now been adjourned until September 19th while awaiting a response to the latest letter sent to the Garda Commissioner.
West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty says the Arkinson family has been waiting over 20 years on this inquest and it’s shocking that proceedings have yet again been delayed.
He sais by withholding information, gardai are further adding to the anguish of the Arkinson family by delaying the inquest into Arlene’s death yet again.
He concluded Gardaí need to come back to the court as soon as possible with the relevant information so that the inquest can be completed.
