Two men ordered to pay compensation after Donegal Town assault

Two young men who assaulted another young man after he escaped drowning when he climbed out of a river have been ordered to pay him a total of €6,000 compensation.
Judge Kevin Kilrane said that was separate to any civil proceedings 21-year-old Pauric Reynolds might wish to pursue.
Donegal District Court was told of a confrontation that started between Reynolds and Shane Ward and Shane Kilpatrick in Sky night club attached to the Abbey Hotel in Donegal town.
Judge Kilrane was told that all three, who were highly intoxicated, were evicted by stewards.
Reynolds who was evicted through a rear entrance fell into the adjoining estuary of the Eske River.
He climbed out and while negotiating his way to the front of the building he was assaulted by Ward and Kilpatrick.
Judge Kilrane said after the initial assault in the club Ward and Kilpatrkick, in the attack outside, administered quite serious blows, making Reynolds unconscious. Mr Reynolds made a remarkable recovery from a very serious assault.
Kilpatrick, 22, of Rossilly Bar, Laghey, Co. Donegal, and Ward, 20, of Lisminton, Ballintra, Co. Donegal, were ordered to pay €3,000 compensation each by October 24 when they admitted assault causing harm to Pauric Reynolds on June 12, 2015, in Donegal town.
The case was adjourned for review. to next April 5 .
