Derry Councillor Christopher Jackson has slammed those responsible for a sectarian attack on young people attending a youth club in the Dungiven Road area of the Waterside.
It’s understood the attack happened when a group of young people were attending the club last night.
In a statement Cllr Jackson said he was contacted by a number of parents who were angry about last nights attack.
It’s believed that a number of children were physically assaulted and there were also bottles and bricks thrown during the incident however there are no reports of serious injuries.
The gang who were involved had their faces covered by scarves.
Cllr Jackson said those responsible need to realise the possible consequences of their actions.
At a time when communities in the Waterside are striving to cement peace and encourage reconciliation it would appear that there is a very small minority intent on living in the past.
Concluding, Cllr Jackson said he is calling on the PSNI to put in whatever resources are needed to counteract and apprehend those responsible for carrying out these attacks.
He is also appealing to anyone with information to contact police.
