West Bromwich Albion and Republic of Ireland International James Mc Clean was the Guest Of Honour at Monday night’s launch of the International Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup.
James was back in his home town after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Austria in the World Cup qualifiers, a result which keeps Ireland top of the group with Serbia and in a strong position going into their next game with Georgia.
The Foyle Cup has been the starting block for a number of Irish international’s over it’s 26 year existence, including Seamus Coleman, Darren Gibson, Shay Given, and Shane Duffy.
McClean is a former player of Derry & District Youth side Trojans FC and played in the Foyle Cup from age 12 up until 19 before signing pro terms with Derry City FC and then onto Sunderland, Wigan and West Brom.

This year’s Hughes insurance Foyle Cup will boast its biggest entry of more than 340 teams competing in the 6 day festival of football with matches taking place across Derry, Strabane, Limavady and Donegal and will be held 17th – 22nd July this year.
