Captain Gerard Doherty on Derry’s 6-1 Europa League defeat in Denmark


It was a difficult night for Derry City in Denmark on Thursday.
Kenny Shiels’ side lost 6-1 away to Midtylland in their Europa League First Round Qualifier First Leg in Herning.
Derry were 3 nil down at half time and on 61 minutes it was five nil.
Ronan Curtis  got the Candystripes’ away goal on 66 minutes but by that stage the game was long beyond them.
Midtylland scored their sixth with six minutes left in the tie.
The second leg will be played at The Showgrounds in Sligo next Thursday.

Elsewhere, It was a largely positive night for the League of Ireland sides in Europa League first qualifying round action.
Gary Shaw’s goal just before half-time saw Shamrock Rovers come away from Icelandic side Stjarnan with a 1-nil lead and Cork pulled off the result of the day.
Garry Buckley and Steven Beattie found the net in a 2-nil win away to Levadia Tallinn.
Crusaders were the only Irish League side to take victory. They beat FK Liepaja from Latvia 3-1 at home while Coleraine and Ballymena both lost in Norway.
Coleraine lost 7-0 to FK Haugesund and Ballymena were beaten 3-0 at the hands of Odds Ballklibb.
