An RTE Investigates programme has revealed that over 50% of dangerous driving cases in part of South Donegal were struck out in court last year.
The RTE Investigates – Law and Disorder programme broadcast last evening showed that nationally, 48% of drink driving offence cases resulted in a conviction before the District Court in 2016.
Last evening’s special RTE Investigates programme examined the nature of Ireland’s District Court system.
It revealed that 15% of drink drive summonses do not get served while, last year, 27% of summonses for all crime were not served.
In 2016 in the Leitrim/ Sligo/ South Donegal district just over 1% of over 3100 court orders in drugs cases were for jail.
Meanwhile, 51% of orders in dangerous driving cases were struck out or dismissed in the Leitrim/ Sligo/ South Donegal district.
