Further clarity sought over future of community hospitals


A Donegal Deputy says it is essential a funding package is put in place to bring Donegal’s community hospitals up to required standards, to secure their long term future.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher received a reply from the Minister for Health this week which stated that the decision to build a new 130 bed community nursing unit in Letterkenny still stands which he says, reflects the fact that the community hospitals are not considered appropriate for use as long-stay residential care homes.
There has been ongoing confusion over the future of Lifford Community Hospital, Ramelton Community Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar.
Deputy Gallagher is calling on the Government to rescind their 2016 decision to downgrade the hospitals:
