A statement from the organisation reads, “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ board of governors met on Tuesday night (May 1) and has voted to expel actor Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership, in accordance with the organisation’s standards of conduct.
“The board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity.”
The Academy’s ruling comes just days after a Pennsylvania jury found comedian Bill Cosby guilty on all counts of sexual assault at a retrial.
He faces up to ten years in prison for each of the three counts of aggravated indecent assault.
Judge Steven O’Neill ruled that Cosby could remain out of jail on $1 million bail pending sentencing at a later date, as long as he surrendered his passport and remained at home.
