Stoke City confirmed the signing of James McClean from West Brom over the weekend.
The Republic of Ireland international joins the Potters on a 4 year deal for an initial fee of £5 million pounds.
It marks Stoke fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
On social media, The former Derry City man asked to be “judged by what I do on the pitch, I promise Stoke fans that I will give everything I have”.
In the past, McClean has been criticised for not wearing a poppy.
Stoke boss Gary Rowett, who echoed McClean’s call to be judged solely as a player, has said of the player’s political stance: “We don’t have to like it, we don’t have to agree with it, but we have to appreciate that he’s been honest enough and true to what he believes.”
Delighted to Join the club, cant wait to get started, all I ask is that I am judged by what I do on the pitch, I promise Stoke fans that I will give everything I have when I pull on the jersey, with your backing am sure I can contribute to helping the club back to the Prem 🔴⚪ https://t.co/iX0qNqI6jJ
