The Fianna Fáil leader has suggested that an immediate commitment to a referendum on marriage equality could be an option to help restore power sharing in the north.
Speaking at the party’s annual Easter Rising Commemoration in Dublin today, Micheál Martin welcomed the resumption of talks.
However, he says trust needs to rebuilt between the two main political parties.
The Fianna Fáil leader suggested that if a suspension of the ‘petition of concern’ wasn’t an option, then a referendum on marriage equality could be considered to break the political impasse:
