Police carry out public safety operation in Derry

A public safety operation has been carried out in the Ballymagroarty area of Derry today.
District Commander Superintendent Gordon McCalmont, says as part of the operation searches were carried out as police had concerns that terrorists may have left items in the area which would pose a risk to the public .
An item has been located that police believe could cause harm in the community.
No further details are currently known.
