Brexit: Irish seafood sector ‘on the brink’ warn KFO

 

 
The Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation is urging the Government to honour the commitment made to the fishing sector in the mandate given to EU Chief Negotiator, Michel Barnier.
The Irish seafood sector directly supports more than 16,000 jobs and is worth more than €1.2billion annually to the Irish economy.
As trade talks continued over the weekend, Brussels warned an argreement must be in place soon, if it is to be approved by the European Parliament in time for the New Year.
Chief Executive of the KFO Sean O’ Donoghue believes the industry is on the brink and the shape of a deal, as currently stands, will be the ruination of the Irish seafood sector:
