Cases have increased six-fold in six weeks – HSE CEO

The head of the HSE says Covid case numbers have risen six-fold in the last six weeks – and remain a “very live threat” to hospitals.

More than 2 thousand new cases were reported yesterday for the first time since January.

There are 248 people with the virus in hospital – with 35 admissions since yesterday – and 48 patients in ICU.

HSE chief executive Paul Reid says the rising number of infections is a concern:
