Irish Army Rangers en route to evacuate Irish citizens in Afghanistan

Nine members of Ireland’s special forces are en-route to Afghanistan to help evacuate the remaining Irish citizens there.

Upon arrival, the Army Rangers will be stationed at Kabul Airport and will liaise with other forces to get the 36 remaining citizens out.

The unit is joined on its mission by two officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

A group of less than 10 Afghan refugees arrived into Dublin last night.

They’re among the first the government has agreed to accept under the International Refugee Protection Programme.
