Derry and Strabane students from years 13 and 14 have been encouraged to consider a career in financial services after 94% of students passed a pilot programme.
This comes as 17 out of 18 students passed the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment level 2 Fundamentals of Financial Services exam.
The four participating schools were: Castlederg High School, Lumen Christi College, St Columb’s College and Strabane Academy.
The programme, a partnership between the CISI and Derry City and Strabane District Council, allows students, sponsored by the CISI’s Educational Trust and supported by financial services firm FinTrU, to study and sit the exam for free.
Between November 2020 and June 2021, 20 students – two of whom are still to take the exam – received remote teaching sessions from Matt Bolton, Teaching & Learning Specialist at the CISI.
The hope is to build on this initial success with an ongoing programme that can potentially be extended to all schools within the Derry City and Strabane region.
