It’s reported Stephen Maguire will turn down the UK Athletics technical director role ahead of next years World Championships.

The UK body have made the Strabane native their top target to replace Sara Symington’s who resigned after poor results on the track at the Olympics.

Media in the UK say Maguire will reject their offer to stay in his post as head of coaching at Sport Ireland with concerns about uprooting his family.

Maguire’s former roles included Director of Performance and Coaching in Scotland, Head of Sprints, Hurdles and Relays with British Athletics and was Head Coach to the Ireland team for the London Olympics in 2012.

This year he joined Finn Valley AC to lead their new Sprint Academy.
