Plans to allow NI politicians double-job to be scrapped

Plans to allow Northern Ireland politicians to double-job are to be scrapped.

It would have allowed MPs to be elected as MLAs in May’s Stormont elections, and hold both positions until the next Westminster election.

The amendment was due to be debated in the House of Lords this afternoon.

But British Prime Minister Boris Johnson ruled out the plan, when questioned by Conservative MP, Simon Hoare, today:
